Yes, Hell has frozen over!

Russian Prime Minister and former head of the KGB admits to Soviet mistakes as he warns the US that, “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence” will lead to a repeat of Soviet Union like failures.

Some of the quotes I found in the Right Perspective page are just priceless. Among them:

Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.”

Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, “we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and ‘bad’ assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would ‘conserve’ and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.”

Isn’t that something? Putin sounding like Goldwater and quoting Ron Paul? Like I said, Hell must have frozen over.

Now some are saying that Putin is full of it. Others are insisting the KGB man has ulterior motives.

I guess one could argue that he’s sincere. It could be argued that it IS in his interest that the US remain fiscally healthy….for the moment. Ridiculous you say? Maybe. He’d like to see us fall but, the US economy is still the driving force in the world economy. We buy oil. We sell weapons to one side and Russia sells to the opposite side. Is there a “Love/Hate” thing going on here and Putin knows he needs us……..for now?

He is advocating the dumping of the dollar as a reserve currency. That doesn’t sound very nice of him. His motives must be questioned but, his current rhetoric makes sense. Too much sense. It is mind boggling.

I really had hoped to find a response from Dr. Ron Paul about this. I couldn’t as of yet. I did find some further info on Putin’s comments on a R.Paul themed site:Referenced Site

Ok, enough for tonight. I’ve done a lot of linking. I hope I didn’t cross the “aggregator” line found in the Standards section of our blog.

No, Britt, you have not crossed any lines. These are exactly the kind of topics we should be discussing.

The article on Filipino immigration addresses a basic injustice in our immigration laws and if even old line commies have a better appreciation of economic realities than our Congress and President, a point has been made.

Good article. I think the 2012 election is going to make or break us. Personally I’m a fan of Ron Paul and I think his policies would take care of this right here. I’ve done quite a bit of thinking about it and even some blogging here http://crookedamerica.com
